Third-Party Funding Servics at MPI-GEA

The Max Planck Institute for Geoanthropology (MPI-GEA) provides its employees with comprehensive support in acquiring and adminstrating third-party funding. The aim is to sustainably promote excellent research ideas and ensure the efficient implementation of successful third-party funded projects.

Below you will find an overview of the services offered and the relevant contact persons:

1. Third-party funding opportunities and advice

Employees who need support finding and applying for third-party funding opportunities receive expert advice and assistance in identifying suitable funding programmes and preparing the application strategically and organizationally. As part of the third-party funding advice service, bundled information on funding portals and current calls for proposals are regularly provided to interested parties. Knowledge is imparted on topics relating to the acquisition of funding in cooperation with the national contact points.

2. Individual application support and conclusion of contract

Eligible employees receive individual support with their application projects. This includes, for example, support in the development of project concepts with regard to funding guidelines and funding objectives, assistance in the preparation of budget plans (in close cooperation with Administration), coordination between the departments involved, support in the submission of third-party funding applications via relevant portals, and assistance in the preparation of selection interviews.

3. Administration and project management after successful third-party funding approval

Following the successful acquisition of third-party funding and the signing of corresponding contracts, the Accounting and Finance team in Administration takes over the financial controlling and management of the approved projects. The institute’s third-party funding funding officer ensures that the funds are drawn down, used and, if necessary, forwarded in accordance with the funding requirements and that the project accounts are properly maintained. She is also responsible for accounting, financial reporting and compliance with contractual agreements with the funding bodies.

In addition to the financial administration of externally funded projects, the third-party funding officer ensures that all relevant requirements relating to accounting and financial reporting are met. This includes, among other things, regular reports/budget reports of the financial status of the project to the project leaders, and communication with the funding bodies to ensure compliance with deadlines and requirements. If you have any questions about the regulations of the funding bodies, please contact the third-party funding officer.
