Data Center and Data Infrastructure
Research at the MPI-GEA generates highly diverse datasets spanning geological timescales, archaeological records, climate data, historical sources, and contemporary Earth system observations. Managing and integrating these heterogeneous data represents a fundamental challenge for geoanthropological research. To address this, the MPI-GEA is establishing a state-of-the-art Data Center to serve as a central hub for research on human interaction with the Earth system. The Data Center will provide researchers with access to digital resources and expertise in data structuring, long-term storage, discovery informatics, and semantic interoperability. It bridges the institute's shared facilities by preparing data for HPC and IT systems, integrating datasets from laboratory and field research, and developing appropriate data acquisition protocols.
