Dr. Jana Ilgner
Main Focus
Jana manages the institute's multifunctional laboratory and fieldwork facilities and is responsible for the maintenance of the laboratories. She supports health and safety assessments and advises on sample permits and shipment regulations.
Curriculum Vitae
Jana received her Master’s in Geography at the Technical University Dresden, Germany, and her PhD in Palaeoecology from the University of Bern, Switzerland.
During her career, she has applied various chemical and biochemical methods to study paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental change. These include applying the geochronologic technique of U/Pb dating of zircons by laser ICP-MS, 10Be surface exposure dating, alkenone-paleotemperature determination, and foraminifera determination for estimating the productivity of past oceans. She has supervised BSc, MSc, and PhD students in laboratory work and research, with a research focus on climate and landscape changes since the last ice age using biomarker and stable isotope analyses.
